NEW TOYOTA CAMRY COMMERCIAL ISN’T FOOLING ANYONE
The marketing department at auto manufacturers must be always facing an uphill battle. How do we boost this mass-appeal economy car’s sales even further than what it already is? Price? Features? Performance?
The latter is what Toyota USA is going for with the latest ad for the Camry on their YouTube channel. You’ll see average Joes’ pupils up close as they spin the steering wheel maniacally, making wonderful exhaust notes that the real-life Camry certainly does not sport.
Now, I’ll admit, the V6 Camry isn’t the worst thing ever. But it’s certainly not the best car for performance-minded buyers, either. Apparently, its exhaust note is somewhat on par with what the video accentuates, but only if you really rev it out. Who’s going to put a catback on their Toyota Camry, anyway?
Maybe, though, the rush of driving depicted in this commercial isn’t for the readers here. Maybe it’s for the average man, the one who picks up his children from school, whose taste in cars is not nearly as diverse as ours. And at that, I reckon that Toyota has succeeded at making an enjoyable car. It’s no Lotus, but there is still some spirit of movement to be enjoyed within the mundane. Either way, they’re going to be sold.
