THE LATEST TOYOTA SUPRA RUMOUR SAYS IT WILL COME WITH A MANUAL OPTION AFTER ALL
After recent BMW/Toyota leaks brought some interesting model codes to the Supra rumour mill, the JDM fans of this world were deeply saddened to see that only automatic options were listed. This seemed odd considering that its sister car – the new BMW Z4 – has been revealed to feature a three pedalled option.
Thanks to a bit of further investigation by Motor Authority, the motoring purists amongst us may be able to sleep better at night, considering the news that has arisen about the new Supra’s transmission options. Sourced from the IH8Mud forum, a member happened to speak to a Toyota representative involved in Toyota’s product plans in North America. He has told us to “expect a manual transmission option” in the 2019 Toyota Supra.
Whether this source can be trusted is a question that can only really be answered once we see the car in the flesh, which will hopefully be at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. Another statement from the representative was that the Supra wouldn’t feature the same inline-six as seen in the Z4, with a turbocharged V6 being used instead. But with talk of hybrid technology along with various engine layouts being thrown around the rumour mill, the Supra’s true specification couldn’t be more up in the air.
The Z4 concept reveal at Pebble Beach last week has given us a look into the basic dimensions that the Supra will be working with but we’ll all just need to sit tight until Toyota decides to reveal all that the 2019 car has to offer.
What engine and drivetrain would you like to see in the new Supra? Should it slot in with the trends of today and have a hybrid powertrain with an automatic transmission? Or should it stay old-school and bring a manual gearbox to the table? Comment with your thoughts below
